Vincent Ortiz receives the NOBCChE’s Presidential Award

Gaussian congratulates collaborator Prof. J. Vincent Ortiz on receiving the Presidential Award from the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE). The NOBCChe celebrated their fiftieth Anniversary National Meeting in New Orleans on 14 September 2023 where the outgoing president, Prof. Renã Robinson presented this award to Prof. Vincent Ortiz. This award recognizes the research, career, and service efforts of people in academia, industry, and government.

After receiving his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Florida in 1981, Dr. Ortiz went on to teach at several universities, most recently as the Ruth W. Mollette Professor Emeritus at Auburn University, where he both taught and mentored students and was also the faculty advisor for the NOBCChE student chapter. The award recognizes his “leadership as an advocate for underrepresented communities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.” Ortiz responded that “It has been a great privilege to contribute to the admirable aims and achievements of NOBCChE.”
