Frequently Asked Questions

  • Above prices do not apply to China. Customers in China should request pricing information from our authorized sales agent.
  • There is no upgrade pricing from G03M to the Intel Mac versions of Gaussian 03, including G03IM.
  • Check About This Mac if you unsure of your CPU type, OS release, and so on.
  • There is no Universal Binary version of Gaussian 03.
  • G03M is not supported on Intel-based Mac systems, not even under Rosetta.
  • Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is not supported on Intel Macs at this time. G03M does support Leopard on PowerPC-based Macs
  • Separate versions of Gaussian 03 are available for 32-bit and 64-bit Intel-based systems (i.e., IA32 and EM64T based Intel Macs) and are licensed individually. The 32-bit version will run on 64-bit Intel Mac systems.
  • Multiprocessor/multicore parallel execution is available only for Intel Macs. This feature is present in the binary and source code site licensed versions of Gaussian 03.
  • Cluster and network parallel versions of both G03M and Gaussian 03 for Intel Macs are available. They require a site license for the appropriate product and purchasing a license for the Linda product as well. The cost of the latter is not included in the preceding table.
  • No source code version is available for PowerPC Macs. This platform must use G03M.

About G03IM

Gaussian 03IM is a single machine binary version of Gaussian 03 for Intel Macs sold under a shrink-wrap license. It is a 32-bit version, and it will not run in parallel on multicore or multiprocessor systems. It is intended as a low cost, entry-level version for this platform. It is available for academic and US government customers only. It is not upgradeable to any version of Gaussian 03M. No upgrade discounts are available from a different version of G03/G03M. Fees paid for G03IM licenses are applicable to a later purchase of Gaussian 03 for Intel Macs (i.e., site license) upon request. (There is no site license version of G03IM itself.)

Compiling Gaussian 03 for Intel Macs

  • Compiling from source code requires the use of a case-sensitive file system such as case-sensitive HFS+ or UFS (note that the default file system is case-insensitive HFS+). A case sensitive file system is not required to run the program, only to build it.

  • To build on IA32-based systems (i.e., 32-bit Intel Macs), you must use the command bsd/bldg03 all mac32 rather than just bsd/bldg03.
